The Planning and Zoning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Aldermen on important decisions regarding land use and development. It consists of seven citizen members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board for 4-year terms. The Mayor and a member of the Board of Aldermen selected by the Board may also be members, for a total of nine on the Commission. The Planning and Zoning Commission exercises and performs all the powers and duties provided for in the zoning regulations.

As mentioned above, the Commission serves an influential advisory role in the planning process. They also maintain citizen oversight of government planning powers and provide a public forum for debate about the future of our community. The issues reviewed by the Commission can cover a wide range of topics -- from regulations on signs in residential and commercial districts to reviewing plans for major developments.

If you are looking for ways to volunteer and be more involved with the City of Twin Oaks, the Planning and Zoning Commission is a great opportunity!
